Tales of Phantasia Cross Edition
Rondoline was adopted and raised by Victor E. Effenberg, a man living in the Forest of Spirits, where the World Tree of Aselia, Yggdrasill is. Since she was little, her foster-father taught her how to use a sword, and how the world outside the forest looks like. One day Victor had to leave to Midgards, telling his daughter that he has some ‘big job’ there. From that point on Rondoline lived alone in the forest.
Everything changed when young Rondoline met Dhaos while taking a stroll through the forest. Since she felt lonely, she decided to try talking to him with a little effect at first. She noticed he spent all the time near the World Tree, so she was coming there every day to see him and eventually, he accepted her presence and even started to talk to her. As the time progressed he told her about his planet Derris Kharlan, about his reason for being in Aselia and taught her how to use magic. The Dhaos Rondoline met was a kind and caring person and she soon grew to admire him. Then one day Dhaos gave her a pendant (or rather a ring), which was a kind of a goodbye present from him, since the next day he was nowhere to be found (he traveled to the future) leaving Rondoline alone again.
The pendant she received from Dhaos, surprisingly allowed her to travel in time, which she used to find him, but as older Rondoline traveled to the future, she learnt a horrible truth – Dhaos was a Demon King threatening all the humanity. Since she didn’t want to believe in this she traveled to find and confront him, yet she was scared of finding out the truth.
In her search Rondoline visited the city of Venezia to look for clues about Dhaos and the sword named the Dragonov, which used to belong to her father. In the city she met Cress, Mint, Claus and Arche (who was possessed by Rhea at that time) for the first time, but she actually joined them later in the Cavern in Spirits. As they were about to leave the cave however, Clay Idols stole Rondoline’s pendant and she left the party to chase after them, refusing Cress’ offer to help her.
In Midgar, Rondoline met the group again, learning that they will take part in the great battle against Dhaos’ forces in Valhalla Plains. She also decided to join the fight but before this she wanted to ask the king about her father’s sword, the Dragonov. Since her father told her he was a hero, she was certain the king would know something about the sword, yet, to her surprise, he had never heard of it. Rondoline joined Cress and others in Valhalla and while heading to Dhaos Castle, they’re stumbled upon the group of soldiers, who blamed the current state of things on Victor. According to the soldiers Victor was a traitor and a person behind the assassination of Midgards’ king 50 years ago. The thought that her beloved father was a murderer left Rondoline in a state of shock.
As the team approached the Dhaos’ Castle, Rondoline was afraid that it may turned out just like with her father, that the dreams and happy memories she had will be destroyed once she learns the truth. She was scared of knowing, but she had to know. When her companions asked her if everything was okay, she dismissed her thought and acted as if it was nothing. She didn’t want to worry them.
Soon they were to reach the top floor of Dhaos’ Castle something unexpected happened. The monster they fought fired a small energy ball at Rondoline which was absorbed by the ring on her neck and this caused the magic to active, sending Rondoline to a different age.
Rondoline traveled to the future, where she met yet again Cress and the others. They told her about what happened, about the city of Thor and how they traveled through time, and also about the sword she was searching for. A strange salesman in the city of Euclid was willing to sell the Dragonov, but only either to the “Child of Eclipse” or for a very, very high price. Rondoline didn’t know what the “Child of Eclipse” was, but the salesman quickly filled her in: the Eclipse was a clan of assassins and every person that belonged to it had an “E” in their names (just like Rondoline). Knowing this, made Rondoline feel even worse. She couldn’t stand a thought that her father lied to her.
The next time they met the salesman, Rondoline saved him from the monsters. The salesman admiring her swordsmanship and overjoyed to meet the true “Child of Eclipse” gave her the Dragonov, but Rondoline didn’t want to accept it. Mint then told her that perhaps Victor wanted for Rondoline to enjoy the life and that’s why he never told her the truth, probably fearing that she would be disappointed in him, yet Rondoline stated that it would be better if she heard that from him and with that she left the Dragonov in the city of Arlee.
Before going to the face Dhaos the group stayed in the inn in Arlee. Rondoline alone came to the place where she left the Dragonov to think about everything that happened. An assassin approached her from the shadows, saying that he is the one of the Eclipse and told her about Victor’s last wish: he wanted for his daughter to have a peaceful life. After hearing that, Rondoline stated that she would still prefer her father to told her that, but in the end she accepted the truth and took the Dragonov.
Rondoline this time was determinate to confront Dhaos and even fight him if she had to. However, as they were about to approach the last floor of the Castle, a trap was activated and Rondoline’s ring’s magic sent her in time again, but this time Cress used Eternal Sword to find her and tried to bring her back. Unfortunately, the ring’s magic was stronger and since Rondoline didn’t want to drag Cress along with her, she let go of him and told him to stay with everyone and defeat Dhaos.
Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X
Rondoline was still traveling in time in order to find Dhaos and she appeared in Lone Valley, in Claus’ time, when he was helping out Dio and Mel find the Summon Spirits to collect Atomism Core. After hearing their story Rondoline offered to help the twins out.
After some plot twists etc., it turned out that Pluto, king of the underworld, decided to take over the world, so Rondoline used her ring to traveled in time and gather Cress and everyone to help. The party leaved to fight with Pluto, but the miasma made it unable for them to go into the cave. Fortunately, with help of Origin, the miasma was cleared and eventually the team faced and defeated Pluto.
When everything seemed to be over Dhaos appeared and stated that the twins are sinful and that he’s here to pass judgment upon them. Rondoline, saying that he’s no longer the kind person she used to know, decided to fight him. When Dhaos could no longer fight, Rondoline asked him why he's doing all of this but he didn’t answer and escaped to the other realm.
But things were far from over. Rondoline ending up in the Dark Realm, met Dio and Mel again. The twins told her they’re after the two masked people, which later turned out to be Dios and Meltia, Dio and Mel’s past selves. It was revealed that Dios and Meltia were people from the planet Derris Karlan and they were the ones responsible for the planet's loss of all the mana, the main reason why Dhaos came to Aselia. The Dhaos that escaped to the Dark Realm was something like a memory, made up from anger and hatred toward the twins. Since Rondoline didn’t want Dhaos to suffer because of the painful memories and the twins wanted to clear everything up with him, she decided to go with them to the Dhaos Castle.
( Personality ) :
At first glance one would be able to consider Rodnoline as a friendly and cheerful young woman, who gets along easily with everyone. She’s always smiling or joking around and enjoys teasing others from time to time (she gets along well with Arche in this) while she rarely gets angry or real serious. She’s also the one that always tries to cheer others up, encourage them or make them forget about their worries. She makes an impression of a straightforward person that takes everything very lightly and doesn’t like dwelling on her past or her worries.
Yet, beneath her friendly and outgoing personality Rodi hides the feeling of loneliness, caused by being left by her beloved father and living alone in the Forest of Spirits for years, as well as traveling through time. Rodi rarely speaks about what is troubling her or lets anyone to worry about her. The years of leaving alone made her independent and so she prefers to do things or deal with her problems on her own.
At a few points in game she is seem wondering off without saying a word to anyone and when asked, she refuses to tell her companions where she went merely saying that it’s a secret. It’s very ovious that Rodi doesn’t feel any need to explain herself to anyone. Despite this, she has no problems with working in a team and she actually likes to travel in a group (because the more the merrier). She also often offers to help others, especially if they helped her before. After years of loneliness she enjoys spending time with other people. Yet, at the very same time she avoids getting too close to anyone, because she knows that after traveling through time again she will most probably not see them ever again.
No matter what happens Rodi is always optimistic and believes there’s no point in worrying. Waiting is not for her either and if something can be done about the problem then she’ll do it right now. She can be a bit impatient sometimes and never stays in one place for too long (unless she really has to). She’s also always doing what she herself believes is right and has to be done.
It’s very obvious that Rodi’s past affected her greatly and is holding her back. Because of what happened to Dhaos Rodi sworn to herself that she will find him and confront him, to find out why he became a person completely different from the Dhaos she knew. Despite how much she admired him and cared about him she would not hesitate to fight him. She doesn’t agree with what Dhaos is trying to do but she also does not want to believe he is a bad person.
Due to being trained by her father since she was little, she is a very experienced and refined swordsman. She’s able to deal with the enemy nearly instantly and she looks extremely serious in the battle, to the point that some think she’s scary when fighting. She’s also skilled with magic (she actually also comes from Derris Karlan, it seems).
Even though she seems to not take things seriously, when the situation calls for it Rodi can stay calm and focused. She doesn’t usually get carried away by her emotions even though while fighting she seems a little cocky and likes teasing her enemies.
Because she traveled a lot right now she is unable to call any place her “home”. She doesn’t have any particular plans for her future either; what drives her is her chase after Dhaos and nothing else beside that. Even though she doesn’t put much attention to her possesion, there are two things that are very precious to her: the sword Dragonov that her father left for her, and the pendant that she received from Dhaos, the Derris Elysium, which she calls her ’most precious memory’. Those two things are reminding her of the two people who were really important to her.

( Sample ) :
Somewhere at the plaza there was a scantily dressed young woman lying on the ground. At first glance she seemed unconscious but if one looked closer they would find out that she was only sleeping. If anyone tried to wake her up all they would get from her was a mumble:
“...It’s too early... Lemme sleep... five more minutes... ‘kay?”
Some more waking up caused her to realize that for some odd reason she was soaking wet. Her blue eyes opened suddenly and she sat up instantly, looking around.
“Huh?... Where am I this time?” Rodi asked, ignoring whoever was previously trying to wake her up. She stood up suddenly and looked around some more carefully studying her surroundings.
“Isn’t this Vatheon? ...This place sure likes me, doesn’t it?” she laughed to herself then looked at the person. “Oh, hey there! You tried to help me out, huh? Well thanks! Name’s Rondoline, by the way.” She grinned. “Vatheon sure hasn’t changed much, has it? ... Oh? How do I know? Well, I’ve been here before!”
And again she’s laughed a little again.
“Anyway, gotta get going now. I need to find a towel or something.”
And with that she simply left.
( Questions? Comments? Concerns? ) :
I’m using the spelling from the GBA version of Tales of Phantasia (since none other version of the got localized), but any other romanization is okay with me, too.
